Holiday Happenings in Calhoun

As the leaves change colors and the air gets crisper, Calhoun comes alive with fall festivals, storied traditions and holiday sparkle. Whether you're looking to visit a pumpkin patch, enjoy live music or experience holiday lights, there's plenty to look forward to this holiday season. Here are some of the can't-miss events in and around Calhoun.

Fall in Love with Autumn Events

Downtown Calhoun will transform into a lively street festival for Rocktober Fest on Oct. 11. Expect live music, food trucks serving seasonal favorites and local vendors showcasing handmade goods. With activities for all ages, it's one of the best ways to soak up the fall atmosphere while supporting Calhoun's small businesses.

Calhoun is renowned for its agricultural roots, and the Antique Engine & Tractor Show is a great way to celebrate the city's heritage with friends and family. This two-day event, held Oct. 17 and 18 at the Cherokee Capital Fairgrounds, is full of live demonstrations. This year, attendees can learn wheat threshing, baling and PTO dyno testing, and kids will love the children's tractor train and games. Admission is FREE, including a pinto bean and cornbread dinner on the first day of the event.

New Echota Historic Site hosts interactive fall programs that bring local history to life. These events are hands-on, educational and a great way to connect with the area's rich cultural history. The Pressed for Time: Apple Press Demonstration on Oct.11 will cover how apple cider and sauce are made using traditional presses, while Dear Stewy: Traditional Cherokee Recipes on Oct. 25 features the preparation of venison stew and other heritage foods by park rangers.

Holiday Events on the Horizon

You won't want to miss the Snowman Spectacular! From Dec. 5 to 14, a community-wide, snowman-building competition commences across local schools, churches and businesses. Walking downtown to admire the entries is a beloved tradition that ushers in the holiday season.

Nothing says holiday cheer like Calhoun's Christmas Parade of Lights. Floats decked out in twinkling lights, marching bands and, of course, Santa himself make this parade a magical night for kids and adults alike. Grab a hot cocoa, bundle up and join the crowd as it lines King Street for one of the city's biggest celebrations of the year, happening Dec. 11 from 7 to 9 p.m.
